Description Of Work:
We had experienced ants coming into our garage and home. This had been going on for a few months. Then I heard a “critter” scratching around in our attic. That prompted me to call an exterminator and take care of both problems. Bulwark got me quickly on their schedule. Very personable, knowledgeable man came and sprayed inside and outside for the bug problem. Also set a trap in the attic and bait boxes in the back yard to catch the RATS – PLURAL!! Eeeck!!! (determined by the type and amount of “droppings” found in attic). They came back 2 weeks later to check the traps (found 1 dead rat). They are coming out 2 weeks from that follow-up date to check again. They’ll keep coming until that problem is resolved. Thank goodness!!

Thanks Debbie!

We are grateful for your feedback! Fire ants are a big problem in the Austin area and regular pest control is required to keep these aggressive ants under control. A fire ant queen can produce over 1000 new eggs a day!  Yikes.  It’s also interesting that the queens fly in to start new colonies.  These new colonies will go unnoticed for few days to a couple of weeks until the queen is ready to hatch out her eggs.  Then they push up those easy to spot fire ant mounds placing the eggs near the top so that they can heat up and start blowing up like popcorn.  Pop, Pop, POP!  And out come your newest harvest of fire ants!

But don’t worry!  We’ve got you protected.  Even when these mounds pop up in between your regular visits!  Just call us up and we will be out within 48 hours to treat the fire ants at no extra charge.

Austin we have an Ant Problem.

Copyright © 2010 PestControlAustin. Visit the original article at http://pestcontrolaustintx.com/2009/10/austin-we-have-an-ant-problem/.

Austin has always had an Ant problem, but every year about this time ants are on the prowl. Yes, it’s Ant Season. They are making their last few preparations before settling in for a “long winter nap.” Fire Ants, Carpenter Ants, Little Black Ants, are all bundling up for the cold. And some of these preparations may lead them right into your kitchen cupboard. And why not? What ant would try to weather an Austin winter without a little food storage? You would have to be a crazy ant!

Speaking of crazy ants, the Texas Rasberry ant is still flooding through Texas and beyond. The rasberry ant has now reached Louisiana and Mississippi. Still no report of the rasberry ant in Austin, but the expert says that he wouldn’t be surprised if they were already here.

So what makes this ant so crazy?

Well being different in the orderly ant world makes you a crazy ant. They don’t walk in straight lines. They kind of look like a nervous wreck with the way the skirt about. So this funny walk is the first hint and perhaps the main reason for the crazy ant title.. But that’s not the really crazy part…

“This is an alien species. This is in higher densities than any other insects I’ve ever seen. They number in the billions and cover everything around them.” – Dr. Jerry Cook.

IN THE BILLIONS!!!

In one small condensed lab study of these ants they found 96 queens in a the ant colony! But it gets better… or should I say worse… The rasberry ant queen produces 2 to 4 eggs per hour. So… 96 x 3 gives you 288 eggs each hour. 288 x 24 hours…

That is 6912 new eggs every day for a SMALL colony!

That’s not so small.

This ants are flooding the state of Texas in a very real sense.  And they are causing havoc as they scurry about.  They have shut down manufacturing plants, they have shorted out street lights, they have caused Fort Houston electrical problems, they have attacked sewage systems and they have damaged well water systems.  “Houston, We Have a (an ant) problem!” is an understatement.  And if you thought ants in Austin were before… just wait.

But then some see a lighter side to this story…

“there is one thing good about these types of ants….they EAT Fire Ants!”

Daryl

I don’t know, maybe getting rid of the fire ant is a good thing, but there maybe a day when Texans miss the occasional fire ant bite over the flood of Rasberry ants.

Spiders Give More than Bites

Spider Silk used to weave this beautiful tapestry

Spider Silk used to weave this beautiful tapestry

This is a 11-by-4-foot tapestry made completely of spider silk!  It took 4 years to make it and the help of over 1 million spiders.  While these particular spiders were farmed and harvested in Madagascar, Texas has very similar orb spiders.  Yes, they do bite and they are very large.  Austin orb spiders can weave massive webs.  When threatened they will actually swing/jump their webs.  This action makes them seem fearsome and aggressive.  My advise is not to play with them too much.  They may not be poisonous, but that doesn’t stop the bite from hurting.

And if you are not planning on spending the next four years weaving a spider silk tapestry then I would suggest not housing the Texas Orb Spiders in your home.  Better to call your local Austin spider control company.

Scorpion Season Heats Up!

Copyright © 2009 PestControlAustin. Visit the original article at http://pestcontrolaustintx.com/2009/09/scorpion-season-heats-up/.

Scorpion Season is here.  Yes fall is prime time scorpion reproductive season.  Little eight legged scorpions are coming out all over the place.  They will hitch a ride on their mother’s back for a couple of weeks and then fall off as she moves around homes, buildings, yards, or fencing.  Each mother produces dozens of new baby scorpions.  Live ones at that.  Scorpions don’t lay eggs, they deliver babies just like we do, except they deliver a hundred at a time.

Here is what Sean in Austin wrote in:

We have are in the process of buying a new construction home in Sendero Springs. We would like to possibly start pest control service when we close. Please respond via e-mail. I would like a price quote and terms of any possible contract if one applies. The house is 1.5 stories and Approx. 2600 sq ft. I have seen scorpions and ants already and we have not even moved in. Thank you!

Sean P. | Austin, TX

I am sure we can help Sean.  And I am sure that you would like your home scorpion free before you move in. We would love to help you feel comfortable and safe in your new home.

How Do I get rid of Scorpions?

Calling an Exterminator is your best option, so long as you call a scorpion exterminator. There is a pest control solution available for scorpion infestations.  Bulwark has put in many hours and serviced over 20,000 scorpion infested homes across the US, developing their own scorpion control. You heard that right… It’s not a pest control solution its a scorpion control solution.  When you’ve got scorpions get scorpion control.
